PRINT DESIGN
As a designer, I have always been aware of the power that print design could have on an audience. When done well, print design can be very persuasive. But it was print that introduced me to the technical aspect of design and how to approach each project with a production mindset.
It was print design that taught me to consider all the various applications of a design and the importance of being able to execute a good idea. Otherwise, it’s just an idea.
WEB DESIGN
Like many designers, I bought into the idea that web design would eventually replace print. The two disciplines would instead provide audiences with very different experiences.
Web design is more dimensional and introduced an element of psychology. How do I design for engagement? How do I design for various types of visitors? More importantly, how do I influence an audience to visit my site?
UI/UX DESIGN
The world of UI and UX design added more technical complexity and psychology to design. Done well, users can be influenced to take action and feel confident in their decision to do so. Designers now have to be obsessed with the ‘why’ something works, not just ‘how’.
The study of how we interact with our tools in a production environment dates back over 100 years and while the application of those principles to design in a digital workspace is relatively new, it transcends all types of media.
ENDORSEMENTS
I worked with Philip on a UX team for HP OneView. Philip is an excellent designer and has great hand skills. He has a full breadth understanding of user experience design. We worked together to create wireframes, conceptual models and user task flows for a rather large enterprise software development project. Philip communicates well with team players and is a delight to work with.
I recommend Philip Hastings without reservation because of his excellent work ethic, compelling leadership skills and agreeable attitude that he brings into the work place. In the weeks before leaving Colab, Philip let me know that he was always an email away for help in starting my career if I needed it. I have since graduated from Colorado State University and have found my dream job. To this day, I know that in Philip I have not only a connection I can count on, but I have a true friend and mentor who is invested in my future success.
Phil is a great asset that I hate to lose. He was my go to guy in and out of his field of expertise. His design work on the company intranet page brought life to a tired format. He will be a strong team player in any organization.
Philip works to serve his clients. He’s focused on making sure he understands just what his clients need. He delivers what he says he will deliver, on time. The designs he creates are fresh and current with the latest technology. He has an eye on the future but understand what is needed today.
Phil was a great resource for our group. He was helpful in every way and aways found the time to provide outstanding customer support. Phil was our go to guy. He developed, maintained and continually improved our groups web based needs… Phil was a positive force in his department!
Philip is an idea man, and personally, I love working with and for people who expect me to think. Always willing to share his thoughts and knowledge, Philip was there to help when I was stuck and searching for a good solution. He was also very good at explaining why he was doing what he was doing. I remember him stressing that a lot: the importance of knowing what motivates your design decisions and the ability to explain your rationale. Phillip is an excellent mentor as well as a talented designer. He is also a fundamentally good person who is fun to work with. I greatly benefited from his supervision.
Phillip has an excellent eye for design and for esthetics. He is known for only the very highest quality, a highly polished finished product, is very professional and his work is on the cutting edge. His technical proficiency in his field is bar none and if your looking for a personable, creative and technically savvy designer to take your company’s design projects to the next level. Look no further than Philip.
